Abstract
This study is designed to analyze, by using a hierarchical regression analysis method, how two factors, such as personal characteristics and micro-enterprise support services, determine financial, technical, managerial and psychological difficulties in business start-ups. It is found that financial difficulties that respondents feel are much higher than technical, managerial and psychological difficulties in operating micro-enterprises. According to hierarchical regression analysis, it is proven that financing service does not reduce financial difficulties, when personal characteristics are controlled. But technical, managerial, and psychological services turn out to significantly reduce related difficulties. When the support services are controlled, sex is not found to significantly affect any of these difficulties. However, start-up experience turns out to be significant variable affecting financial difficulties. Educational background is also found to significantly affect managerial difficulties. These results clearly point out that technical, managerial, and psychological services are effective for reducing operating difficulties. The results also show that different personal characteristics should be considered for different service strategies.
